Crickets are stirring

It’s been a long time since anyone posted here.

I’ve enjoyed a streak of unparalleled proportions – running 20 miles per week for three months. The cool weather and a commitment to do it were responsible.

The streak was broken the first weekend of April when I had to go to New Orleans for a conference. I could have run there, I realized too late, but I feared some nasty weather, little time to run, and an uncertainty about downtown running venues. Nevertheless, I got back on track to do a 20-mile week last week.

I remember how poorly I ran last spring, suffering from sinusitis and general spring allergies. They’re not as debilitating this year and I attribute that to the head-jarring that occurs while running. It shakes out!

My winter race season has been nothing short of remarkable, in my eyes. Three 5Ks and a 10K, all run at about 8:35 mile paces. For an old guy, I’ll take it. Short races are more fun than the long ones. Have I said that before? I think so. My one criticism is that if I could do six miles at an 8:35 pace I should have been able to do better than that at three miles, don’t you think?

It’s almost time for Boston. Be strong Running Chick in the Orange Hat, and everybody else running the big one.
